Thread retraction

Thread retraction is when implant threads pull back out of the brain after surgery, cutting the signals they record.

It happened to many of Noland Arbaugh's threads in early 2024, and software changes restored his control. After surgical changes, Neuralink reported higher signal quality in 18 of the next 20 participants and said it is still improving how threads stay in place (Neuralink).
