Transdural insertion

Transdural insertion means pushing the implant's threads straight through the dura mater without cutting it open.

Neuralink did it for the first time on May 20, 2026, in Lee Marten's surgery at Toronto Western Hospital with neurosurgeon Andres Lozano (Neuralink). Leaving the dura intact makes the surgery less invasive and faster, and dye and cameras keep blood vessels in view while the threads go in.
